How to spend 2 Days in Dubrovnik Croatia

My husband and I spent 2 delicious and amazing days in Dubrovnik Croatia in May of 2024. I’m a big GOT fan. Game of Thrones is honestly what put Croatia on my bucket list. Dubrovnik was the site of King’s Landing on the show, but it is SO much more!

Cheers from one of the many outside Cafe’s within the City Walls of Dubrovnik!

Dubrovnik is rich with history, culture, food and wine! I certainly needed to utilize all the tools in my kit to research and plan this trip. More details will come on the full process of how I select my trips. I will also share how I research, plan, and book my activities in my upcoming 3 part series. Stay tuned! But for this trip, I received a recommendation for an amazing Hilton Hotel right outside the City Walls and close enough to walk – the Imperial Hilton Dubrovnik. You can certainly check out all the available hotel options using Hotels.com https://www.kqzyfj.com/click-101334101-13513696. Another great resource I utilize is Travelocity, you can check them out here https://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-101334101-13289435 I often use both to look for the best deal on incredible hotels!

Our first stop upon arrival was the gorgeous, romantic bar on the main floor. We were quickly escorted outside to the patio that overlooks the fortress and city gates. Our server was very helpful. She guided us to the local Croatian white wines. We selected one of the Posip (think sauvignon blanc) and the GRK (more robust and dry white). We expressed interest in trying the local wines. This prompted the bar staff to offer us all their must-try recommendations. They opened multiple bottles of wine for sampling. We learned that in Croatia the wine is grown on the coast in sandy soil. It is absolutely delightful. It is refreshing on a warm day or evening.

We decided to venture out for our first meal. We selected one of the recommended restaurants from the hotel staff. They were even so kind as to call and get a reservation there for us. We walked down the street and through awe inspiring wood doors that welcomed us into the city. We were greeted by the sounds of a string quartet. There is nightly free entertainment from the local musicians within the city. As you stroll through the main street, looking left or right are numerous alley’s lined with shops, cafe’s and restaurants with outdoor seating. The city is lively and yet not crowded.

If you are a seafood fan – Dubrovnik will not disappoint! We had many incredible meals sampling the local oysters that come from Mali Ston – the oyster capital of Croatia! I must say, Kopun – castrated Rooster is another local delicacy you have to try. We ate at Kopun Restaurant as our Dubrovnik City Walking Tour guide recommended it. It was the most incredible chicken salad of my life! I could talk about the food all day. This was a massive highlight for us. The culmination of our dining delights was Restaurant 360. This Michelin star restaurant excels not only in food, wine, presentation, and service. The location is out of this world. Restaurant 360 is located atop the wall that surrounds the city. The ambiance equally held its own with the food! A must try in my opinion!

We love a great walking tour of any city and Dubrovnik was not exception. We opted for a private tour of the city, city walls and of course Game of Thrones highlights. I always chose tours from Viator – they have exceptional guides that are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and always go above and beyond. They are passionate about their cities and love to share their wealth of knowledge. You can check out the tours we took and others that I recommend via this link vi.me/s/culturencocktails.

Our tour guide from Viator vi.me/s/culturencocktails did not disappoint! He was an extra in GOT and pointed out so much behind the scenes stuff! His food recommendations covered everything from Kopun to Gelato! He gave us so much historical information – details on the war, the third oldest pharmacy in Europe (The Franciscan Pharmacy) and additional details about how Durbrovnik has evolved. He also encouraged us to purchase the City Pass which gave us access to the walls and all the museums within.

I hope these tips pushed anyone on the fence about checking out Dubrovnik over the edge! We barely scratched the surface and can’t wait to go back! We would definitely add some of the islands to our next itinerary – Hvar for sure. Check out Viator for all their incredible tour options as you plan for your next adventure!

Stay tuned for my upcoming 3 part series on my process for how I research, plan, and book my travel itineraries!
